Wow, it's been about 3.5 weeks since my last post and in that time, I've managed to go on vacation, get sick, book new clients, and launch another service which my business offers: kimchi kimjang parties.
In the first Kimchi Chronicles postback in August, I touched a little bit on what 'kimjang' is and how important it is in Korean culture and society in general. Now that the Harvest Moon festivities are over (read all about it here), the next big even would be the collective kimchi making known as KIMJANG. Kimjang is so tightly woven into the Korean identity that the process is archived by UNESCO and recognized as icon of Intangible Cultural Heritage for Korean society.
Perfect segue into the launch of a new service from my business, Dinner on Demand Personal Chef Services! Did you guess it correctly? If you guessed Kimchi Kimjang Parties, then YOU'RE RIGHT!!! Do a happy dance for getting it right. Go on, no one's watching!
Just like many a good idea, this one came to me rather serendipitously when a friend and client asked me to make her a jar of kimchi because she was on heavy antibiotics and wanted a tasty source of good probiotics to balance her intestinal flora. Being the brilliant woman she is, she knew very well of the medicinal value of the probiotics naturally formed during the fermentation process of kimchi. I realized that she was far from the first person to ask me/pay me to make kimchi for them, and considering I like to teach to fish whenever I can, the Kimchi Kimjang Party was born!
A great friend was gracious enough to host Dinner on Demand's first Kimchi Kimjang in her home and a great time was had by all! Another great friend and upcoming photographer, Kristine Olaes of Keep it Koala Photography was on hand to capture so many fantastic images of the night! I'm sharing a few here.
